long has Nick Harris Detective Academy been in business? |

The
Academy was established in 1907, (before the FBI). At the turn
of the century, our Academy trained the Los Angeles Police Department
as well as the Los Angeles County Sheriffs department. |

Investigators, Detective Agencies, Attorneys, Law Firms, Insurance

you need previous law enforcement experience to become a PI? |
| A: |
No,
most investigators come from diverse occupations. |

Do
PIs carry guns? |
| A: |
No,
most real private investigators do not. Some do carry Mace for
protection. Many of the P.I. jobs are very safe and require
no weapons or knowledge of self defense. |

is the job market like for new PI's? |

It
is excellent, considered one of the fastest growing occupations.

there full time and part time opportunities? |

Yes,
the demand for investigators is escalating. Many keep their
current job and supplement their income. Others prefer to work
full time. |

can I expect to earn? |
| A: |
As
with most new careers, you must first pay your dues. Starting
hourly wages vary depending upon the employer. $10. to $15.
is average with rapid advances. Licensed PI's charge clients
around $55. per hour or more and can earn $100,000. annually. |

are the employment opportunities for females? |
| A: |
They
always are in demand. Approximately 40% of all PI's are female. |

Are
there many classroom private eye schools in the world? |
| A: |
Only
a few. No other training Academy can match our longevity, experience
and reputation. |

I
do not live in California, but I want to come to the foremost
training academy, how long must I reside in the state during
training? |
| A: |
If
you enroll in our ten week day full time course you will only
need to be here 7 weeks. Most of the prep work and written assignments
can be done from you home. Please contact us for our accommodations
package. We do maintain a limited number of housing sites. If
filled we can supply a list of available rentals in the area
for registered students. |

Do
you need to have a license to be employed as a Private Investigator? |
| A: |
No,
you will work under the license or authority of your employer.
In California you need a license only to operate your own detective
agency. Some states do not require any licensing. In California
you have to work as a PI 3 years before being licensed. There
are special types of work that can be performed without a P.I.
license. |
